Factory Game

(Case Study)

Factory Game was a summer project I undertook to challenge and expand my programming skills. It was inspired by my interest in the factory builder genre, which is known for its complex and robust systems.

In this project, I developed a fully functional item storage and inventory system, along with mechanics for building and destroying various structures and components. I also enhanced my artistic capabilities by creating a few 3D assets as well as diving into the world of shaders.

Tools: Unity, Visual Studio, Blender, Krita

Roles: Programming, 3D Modeling, UI UX Design, Systems Design

Team Size: 1

Timeline: 4 months

TL;DR

  • Created Item storage / Inventory system

    • Made modular and expandable using Unity's Scriptable Objects

    • Created player facing inventory UI with Save and Load

    • Items and Inventory interact with build mode

  • Created grid based build and destroy modes, replicating those typically seen in Factory Builders

    • Created multiple build patterns depending on the buildable

    • Created hologram shaders to mimic typical factory builder visuals

  • 3D modeled conveyor belt variants to have custom buildable that fit my vision for the future gameplay
